Support for your journey to a new normal
My journey began when I lost my husband of 37 years after a long, protracted illness. Our treatment team included social workers and counselors who tried to help us feel better when what we really needed was forward focused support to assist us in setting goals. and activating our inner resources. We needed a coach. After Lee’s passing, I committed to becoming such a coach for my community.
To equip myself with the necessary tools and knowledge, I enrolled in a Master of Psychology program, with a focus on life coaching. I augmented this by enrolling in Coaching At End-of-Life Coach, a preparatory course for my specialty. I graduated from both of these programs and opened an online coaching presence in August 2023. .
Through this journey, I have come to appreciate the profound importance of providing support and solace during life's most challenging moments. My personal experience, years as a nurse practitioner, and professional training have equipped me with empathy, understanding, and skills required to help others find peace, comfort, and meaning during the final stages of life. As an end-of-life coach, my aim is to offer compassionate guidance and a supportive presence, helping individuals and their families navigate this significant transition with dignity and grace.
Please reach us at if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Life coaching is a process in which a coach helps individuals identify and achieve their personal goals. As life draw to a close the goals change, but the process is the same. It is a journey to the end of life and beyond. Some believe in life after death, some do not. But almost everyone will live with the memories of the one they lost. The end-of-life coach partners with the one who is dying, providing a safe safe space where they can process their grief and reach their goals.
A bereavement coach walks with someone who has suffered significant loss and helps them see their way to a new way of life. After loss, an individual needs to redefine their identity, develop new problem solving skills, create a plan for achieving their goals, and overcome obstacles may be holding them back from success. The bereavement coach is a partner in this process, not by giving direction, but holding open the door to a safe space where growth happens.
Watching someone you care about transition from life to death is an exhausting and painful experience. During the process the caregiver lays aside their personal preferences and focuses on the one who is dying. A life coach for caregivers will set aside a safe space where the caregiver can process their grief and pain. In this space, the caregiver can explore their inner lives and sometimes find strengths and abilities they didn't realize they had.
The cost varies according to the organization. At Northwest Coaching and Advocacy, we believe in making the services affordable. Our fee for a full (55 min) session is $50 with a 10% discount if purchased in bundles of 6. A brief (25 min) session is $25 with the same 10% discount for bundles of 6 sessions. For residents of Kitsap County, WA state, visits to the home or facility of a dying person an be arranged. These visits are not timed; the fee is $150.
Typically the first coaching session is a time of meeting each other. At this session, much information is shared, but little coaching is done. Typically the client describes their story, the coach talks about what coaching might offer. By the end of this session, the client decides if this coach is someone they can work with. If so, they schedule sessions, if not at least they do not have to pay to find that out.
At present, NW Coaching and Advocacy is linked to Venmo. The account is @Coach-BettyB. Since November 1st, have a billing service through Wave. I will also accept cash and checks if we have face-to-face sessions. It is expected that services are paid for a time of service, although prepaying is an option. A refund will be promptly issued is sessions are cancelled.
